Lussebullar the American Way

Lucia is coming up this weekend, and what does that mean? Lussebullar! Since there is a big snow storm here, I decided to make some. The American way.

First, buy a box of lussebullar mix.

Put the yeast in warm water for 5 minutes.

Once well blended, leave the dough covered for 30 minutes to double in size.

Let the dough riseDoubled!

dough doubledPut some flour on a rolling area and knead the dough.

knead the doughBreak into 25 pieces.

25 piecesRoll into thin long piece on wax paper.

Make it into an S. Add raisins.

Leave to rise again for 30 minutes.

Bake for 5-10 minutes.

bake lussebullarOnce golden brown, remove and let cool under cloth.

lussebullar coolingFinished! Ok, that wasn’t very American, way to many steps, and way too much time. Whatever, that is probably why we don’t have lussebullar in America. Or maybe I was just missing the cute young Swedish girls to help me bake these, like in the picture on the back of the box.
