So, you’re planning a casino night at home with your friends? From sending out invitations to organizing games and drinks, there’s a lot to think about to make your night feel as exciting as and fulfilling as Vegas. We all want the games and the ambience to ooze Hollywood glam, but that doesn’t mean you take us out of Sweden. For a casino-party food menu, you should do a deep dive into our Scandinavian culture to make sure your night on the slots is one to remember. Like all cultures, Swedish food is both unique and exciting, making it the most perfect conversation starter at any party. It’s tailored around local produce that tastes mighty fine, meaning a casino-fuelled event with Swedish options is a match made in heaven. Packed with hearty flavour and simplicity, the food of our culture has a lot to brag about.
Just because it’s a night with friends playing blackjack or table games does not mean we need to get down and dirty with American cuisine. Most households would be jumping for the chips and dips to chow down on at their next party, but we’ve got some time to prep over here. In this blog, we’re going to give you three of our favourite Swedish recipes to host a casino night to remember. So, pen and paper at the ready: it’s time to head to the supermarket.
1. Swedish meatballs
It’s not a Swedish party without meatballs on the menu, and what’s easier to chow down on than these? Sat in a tricky game of 21, or preparing to start a joint game at a real casino online? Meatballs are the ideal choice for anyone who just needs a small bite to keep them going.
Our classic Swedish meatballs are the ultimate crowd-pleaser and will give your grannies a run for their money. You can add in a delicious cranberry sauce, or include a mix of condiments for a fun affair – the choice is yours!
Ingredients:
- 400g lean pork mince
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, grated or chopped
- 85g fresh white breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp finely chopped dill, plus extra to serve
- 1 tbsp each olive oil and butter
- 2 tbsp plain flour
- 400ml hot beef stock
To make these meatballs, take the egg, onion, breadcrumbs, and dill, then form them into meatball shapes. Next, brown off in a hot pan before removing them from the stove. The best bit? Use the butter and oil and stir in plain flour to make a delicious juice. Add the stock slowly and leave to simmer before adding in a lovely spoonful of cranberry sauce for extra sweetness. Perfect for the casino night snacks, yet equally delicious for any dinner party you plan!
2. Gubbröra
Simple yet effective, this little Swedish snack is the epitome of our culture, and also makes an easy bite if you’re in a high-tension game with friends. Think of it as an egg salad but in Sweden, this dish can be served as a canapé or starter and is one perfect bite.
Ingredients:
- 3-4 boiled eggs
- 1 chopped red onion
- 1.5 tbsp of butter (any)
- 125g of anchovies
- 3 tbsp of finely chopped parsley
Before we give you the total rundown of this delicious casino snack, we must note that you should never mash this dish. It’s all about being finely chopped in a perfect manner. First, slice up the hard-boiled eggs, along with the onions and anchovies. Then, melt butter in a pan and fry off your onions until they are a beautiful gold colour. Finally, add those chopped anchovies to the pan and fry gently before adding in the eggs to stir through. Don’t overdo it, as it’s the perfect refreshing snack to be served on a little crispbread. The food will be so good, you’ll be betting against your best friends for the final one of these.
3. Räksmörgås
Fresh, simple, and undeniably delicious, we’ve picked out an absolutely fantastic finish to your casino nibble lineup. Räksmörgås, also called Swedish prawns, is an open prawn sandwich that takes just a moment to create. Made with fresh, local produce, this can be turned into tiny nibble bites while you’re pre-drinking in the home casino, or try eating them during the most intense of games — trust us, they’re worth it.
Ingredients:
- 2 hard-boiled eggs
- 2 slices rye bread or crispbread
- 4 tbsp mayonnaise
- 6 lettuce cups
- 300g cooked prawns
- 1 lemon
- 4 sprigs of dill
- 8 slices cucumber
Again, for the last option, we’ve created the perfect final choice for your 007-themed casino evening. Picked especially for any busy Bond girl, it can be made two minutes before you serve. Slice the eggs and cucumbers thinly, and then layer the mayonnaise on your crispbread. Then, season the prawns and add lemon before arranging the ingredients all on top of the lettuce cup and cracker. Finish with a final lashing of mayonnaise and garnish with more lemon and dill. Perfect!
Remember, it’s your casino night, and the easier the options for you, the more time you’ll spend having fun with your bets. Here’s to plenty more nights hosting and having fun with friends.
