The Girl who Played with Fire follows in the foot steps of Elisabeth Salander, who returns to Sweden after a year abroad. Unfortunately an evil character in her past shows up again, and against her will she finds herself needing the help of her journalist friend Mikael Blomkvist to not only fight off a war criminal, but a secret branch of the Swedish government that is helping him get away with murder!

This is another great book by Stieg Larsson, and it was also made into a Swedish movie. It is definitely a page turner, but the end does leave you wanting more. Luckily the 3rd and final book is already written, so I recommend you purchase both so you do not have to wait to find out what happens to Salander.

I’m not sure this book shows so much Swedish culture, at least as much as I would want it to. Mikael Blomkvist is shown to be a real ladies man, which I don’t think is that common in Sweden. As he is the only main male character, it is easier to assume otherwise. Salander is still the anti social girl who seems to wiggle her way into the hearts of most men she meets, even though she is rude and uncommunicative. Not sure how believable the character is to me, but the story line is still a great page turner and a great read. Highly recommended if you aren’t interested in deep, meaningful literature.

And since this book is so popular, I recommend you read it just so you know what people are talking about at the next party. Buy it now on Amazon for under $10!
