When I was visit Sweden I got to catch up with old friends. The weather was nice while I was there, and my fishing buddy Sven Evert and his wife were still spending time at their summer cottage. The sun was shinning on the lake, and the place looked so peaceful.
It was great to fika and catch up on what was new. Discussing the differences of life in America vs life in Sweden. And remembering old times. Sven Evert is over 65, and I love hearing stories about when he was growing up. It was a different time, and what a different life perspective!
Another reason I love visiting Sven Evert and his wife is they are all Swedish. Our conversations are entirely in Swedish, and I feel like I can dive head first into the culture. Oh, and they make me waffles.
Waffles of course are best served hot. With jam, raspberry or cloudberry. And you always want jam from Swedish berries picked in the forrest. Otherwise it doesn’t count.
Berries in Sweden were good this year. It had something to do with the cold and the lack of birds. Sven Evert showed me his ever so rip berry bush that surrounded their summer house. Yummy!
But I digress. We were talking about waffles. And their awesomeness. So you have the waffle, and jam. The final touch is the whipped cream. Not in a spray can mind you.
This all of course has to be served with coffee. Strong Swedish coffee. Yum!
It was so great to catch up with Sven Evert, his wife, and eat a bunch of waffles. Sven Evert taught me to ice fish, pick mushrooms in the Swedish forest, and now, how to properly eat waffles. I couldn’t ask for a better friend!
