What is Swedish anyway? Are you Swedish just because of where you were born in the world? Is it the language you are most comfortable speaking?
Or is it something more?
Is it a passion for a fika that makes you Swedish? Do you need to live in Sweden to have some Swedish in you?
I don’t have an answer to these questions. But I do have a quiz for you to find out how Swedish you are! It may be a little off since I have Norrland influence. But that doesn’t make it less fun!
How Swedish Are You?
Are you a Swedish Freak? Take this quiz and find out how much of a Swede you really are!
Congratulations - you have completed the quiz How Swedish Are You?
From what we can tell, %%RATING%%
Congratulations!
Your answers are highlighted below.
What do you think makes one Swedish?
Hilarious since I actually am half Swedish. : D
From what we can tell, Sweden is in your blood. Sweden is in your blood.
This is my result! :-))))
my dad dad was born in öland sweden and my dads mom was born in stockholm sweden. my father always tried to teach me the language. i grew up in jamestown new york which is a big swedish community. my family lived on swede hill.
And what was your result?
I am totally open to suggestions for some changes! But yeah, I lived in Skelleftea, it was based on my experiences 🙂
well I’m Swedish and I must say I don’t agree with the markings of what’s correct and what’s wrong, so if you do this test as a foreigner who just happens to like Sweden and the Swedish – don’t worry too much if you get low scores! The person putting this together is not exactly right him/her self. 🙂
e.g. Fika has absolutely NOTHING to do with your lunch, I got “wrong” when clicking that meatballs are great with jam and potatoes – which is the best (and most common) way of eating meatballs; boiled potatoes, sauce and Lingonberry jam. So this person is obviously only focusing on his/her own opinion rather than what is actually, factually Swedish. So, again, don’t worry about low grades!! 🙂
Yep, it is! But Fika DOES have something to do with your lunch. When out fishing/mushroom picking, asked to bring a fika, it means bring your lunch! If you bring just a banana or a cookie you will be hungry all day.
So personal experience is one, experience in Northern Sweden is another.
I’m happy to change anything you guys think needs changing 🙂 Also, I need to check the meatballs question, your answer should have been right…
Ah, two answers were right in this question. Maybe the quiz is acting up? Meatballs do come in a can at IKEA 🙂
so true! I had to laugh when one of correct answers for FIKA was described as packed lunch & that potatoes & jam w/ meatballs was incorrect.
I’m assuming the test was an automated quiz and not written by author of blog herself…i hope! lol
Hi Jinxie, actually I did make the quiz! From my experience, Potatoes & jam with meatballs is a meal, not a fika. And I was told to bring a fika when mushroom picking… they actually meant a packed lunch! I was hungry the first time out there 🙂 I hope you enjoyed the quiz in any case 🙂
I was born in Sweden but came to Australia when I was quite young… I have been back several times (most recently as may 2011) as all of my family are there…. So its quite funny that I was scored as half Swedish…lol
Not bad, 93%, but I wished I had 100%, for I’d like to be Swedish for the rest of my life!!
I am half Swedish – my better half is Swedish!
I got 11 but some answers did not click as a tick when I did them.
But it didn’t seem to give me a score
“From what we can tell, you are about half Swedish. Not too shabby!” Lol I did get tricked by the vodka question- being in Southern Sweden…and some questions had more than one answer? That was confusing haha! Enjoyable.
Yeah, my friend in Uppsala pointed that out to me. Where I lived, it was all whiskey. And not just one person, multiple parties, multiple people. But maybe it is just the town I lived in!
wtf…
How Swedish are you? You are if you know it can’t be measured.
Thank you! Perhaps I should put a disclaimer that if you need to take a quiz to find out if you are Swedish, then you aren’t? Some people are quite angry about it! It’s all in fun people 🙂
just a Sweden fan !
LOL, I changed the alcohol question since I was getting so much grief about it. I’m so sorry Sweden!
sweden lover
I’m from Norrland, Norrbotten in fact, and I scored as “half swedish”. I think you need to finetune your test… The fika question is just wrong, a packed lunch makes me think of the lunch box I microwave at work. Not fika. Maybe you could change it to “sandwich lunch at an excursion” or something. Also, whiskey?? As a teenager in Norrbotten we sustained ourselves on Vodka (homemade, bought in Finland, or from Systemet in declining order 😉 ) and/or cider. And actually, I think the very sweet cider we have here is quite specific to Sweden.
It is a fun test though, maybe you should make a “How Norrland are you?” quiz also. 🙂
Maybe the lunch thing is lost in translation, I will improve it.
Though really, the whole time I’ve been there I did not see a vodka at a party once. Unless girls were mixing drinks, and that doesn’t count, I’m thinking shots. Everyone busts out the whiskey. Though both should be right now!
Good though on Cider and the Norrlander quiz! 😀
100% ! Woohoo. Aussie living in Sweden 🙂
Sweet! Good job! Where in Sweden do you live?
I am Swedish and I have lived here my whole life.. I got this result: From what we can tell, you are not as Swedish as you would like to be.
LOL, please don’t take it to heart. It is a fun little quiz some crazy foreigner (me) made up 🙂
I also have blue eyes
Yes! I got super Swede, my parents are from northern Europe I come from vikingism and i love IKEA. I also have super blonde hair and blue eyes.
Love it! Congrats super Swede!
I am half Swedish. answering the questions also came out 50% Swedish.
Very cool!
I know I drink more coffee, and wishing I lived in Sweden only makes things a little difficult or unreal because I don’t. I know I am an American… Swedish society is so dynamic. 8 million or so and the sweeping political changes… I can barely utter a word by now. Its debatable which of us really has more freedoms. I can only dream about the style and beauty… I don’t even have Scandinavian furniture in my home, but we did growing up in one of the dining rooms. Would love to live in a little cabin with a BASTU by the lake and learn to snowmobile, but I live on a beach, near an island! Waiting on people “alla hela dagen.”
I’m three-quarters Swedish thanks to three grandparents who were born in Sweden but emigrated to the U.S. The test result said I’m 74% Swedish – funny but quite accurate!
That’s not fair! What if I don’t like canned kötbullar?! 😀
I got half Swedish even though I’m full Polish. I do love Sweden and it’s people. They value truth, honesty and realism all qualities I can respect and are missing in North America.
Anyone wanna show me around Sweden lol? So over North America.
With a birth name of Lundberg I am 50% Swedish and
PROUD OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Bergman films, my favorite
being “Fanny and Alexander”. I have traced my Lundberg
roots all the way back to 1600’s Sweden. I have a book
entitled “Scandinavian Humor and Other Myths” by
John Louis Anderson. My late father was 100% Swedish
American by virtue of the fact that both sides of his
family came from Sweden. (Anderson/Lundberg).
I have a good sense of humor believe it or not. I love
pickled herring and fishing. I hope to visit Sweden
with family one day. Hello to all my new Swedish
friends.
Sweden is in my blood. Very True!
I’m born in Sweden and has lived here for 63 years, I’m “half Swedish, not too shabby” Loved your quiz You have a great sense of humor!
Thank you! 🙂
Born Raised in Stockholm “lumpen” in Östersund
Apparently half Swedish
Must be drinking to much Kaffe at +6 cups a day
I love all things Sweden, including the culture and FIKA! I scored 12/14….pretty good, I thought!
After finishing the test I scored as half-Swedish which, coincidentally, is exactly my ancestry. My dad came to the US from Sweden at age 18 and my mom was Canadian of Scotch-Irish extraction. Since the vikings often raided and settled in Scotland and Ireland, my mom may also have contributed some Swedish genes :-).
Of course, genes are not what being Swedish is about — it’s the state of mind and how one views life and the world that really matters!
I came for the potato pancake recipe (dad loved those) and stayed for the quiz! Thanks, Swedish Freak!
Thank you Niles for stopping by!
